Who we are

Founded in 1983, the Center for Eating Disorders (CED) pioneered comprehensive, multidisciplinary team outpatient services for children, teens, and adults with anorexia nervosa, BED, bulimia nervosa, ARFID and related disorders in the state of Michigan. Our treatment team is comprised of eating disorder treatment specialists from the fields of social work, psychology, counseling, and nutrition, including collaborative partners from medical and other professions with specialized training in eating disorder diagnosis and treatment. These services are now offered via telehealth, allowing those from communities outside of commuting distance to access our experienced care.

Individualized Treatment

We treat people of all genders and ages including children, teens, and adults/seniors with family involvement whenever possible.

The goal of our programs and services is very simply, RECOVERY. Our experience has taught us that each individual/family must be empowered to seek recovery in a way that best suits their needs and preferences. To that end, our client- and family-centered team treatment approach offers highly individualized care, incorporating a range of proven treatment approaches. Our goal is to help our clients resolve eating, weight, and body image issues to improve their health and well-being, as well as to protect against relapse by addressing key predisposing factors, including trauma and other co-occurring conditions.

Our team treatment approach includes individual psychotherapy, medical care and pharmacotherapy, nutrition counseling, Family Based Therapy (FBT), body image work, trauma evaluation and treatment, couples/marital counseling, and psychoeducation and support groups. Treatment begins with a telehealth-based initial assessment with a clinical specialist to determine a recommended personalized treatment plan as well as an appropriate level of care. If a higher level of care is recommended, we will assist you in that process.

Philosophy

Our approach to treatment is grounded in the use of the most effective evidence-based practices administered by a clinical team with years of training and experience in the treatment of children, teens, and adults/seniors with eating issues. We are proud of our team’s expertise, dedication and commitment to offering our clients the most healing and effective treatment experience.

We honor diversity in size, shape, age, race/ethnicity, gender, and religion/spirtuality as well as neurodivergence, respecting individual differences and preferences in style and ability in the therapeutic process.

We believe families and loves ones can be a vital support in the healing process and incorporate family and conjoint sessions into treatment whenever feasible.
